A lunar landscape, perfect for a spring break

All year around holiday resorts will always be favourites, simply because when the weather is rubbish at home, we have somewhere we can always escape to for a bit of blue sky and sun. The Canary Islands are just a four hours’ flight away from the UK, and Lanzarote continues to be hugely popular, year upon year.

No need for a time change, Lanzarote is in the same time zone as back home, and a simple currency conversion to the Euro is all it takes to be in the sunshine, regardless of the month.

If you fancy a winter or spring getaway at the last minute, cut a few costs to make your dream a reality. A good way to do this is to avoid costly public transport and drive yourself to the airport, booking a parking spot through Airparks. This is my favourite add-on extra, because it not only gets rid of travel stress, but also saves money – a double win! I regularly book parking at Stansted Airport, simply because I got so fed up of the coach taking forever, and the train being packed all the time, and it’s a swap I’m glad I made. The good news is that this is a service that is available nationwide, so nobody misses out.

Cutting costs here and there means we are able to get away a little more often, and if you are looking out of the window and wondering where the sun went, it really is only a few hours away on a plane.

My favourite resort on Lanzarote is Puerto del Carmen, because I like the vibrant night-life and the golden sand beach, however there are plentiful other quieter resorts not too far away, with Playa Blanca another favourite. No resort is too far away from the airport at Arrecife, meaning minimal transfers after a plane journey.

What most people first notice about Lanzarote is the landscape, and this being a volcanic island, you really will get a totally different view to what you’re expecting. The land is almost moon-like, with craters and dust, before running down to beautiful beaches and bright blue sea; it’s a real treat for the eyes. To go hand in hand with the volcanic vibe, you must visit Timanfaya National Park, where you can ride a camel up a volcano, eat food cooked with thermal heat from the ground, and get a panoramic, stunning view of the island and beyond. It’s no wonder this is the island’s number one excursion.

Whether it’s a last minute getaway or a planned summer break, look in Lanzarote’s direction for a holiday with a lunar difference.
