The Beautiful Walled City Of Lucca In The Heart Of Tuscany

Lucca is one of the beautiful cities in the Tuscany region of central Italy which many people miss during their trips. We have to say it’s a big mistake as the city has a lot to offer for curious travelers in search of beautiful scenic locations with a lot of history, architectural beauty and unique culture.

It is also very close to Cinque Terre making it a perfect destination to spend a few days before embarking for yet another lovely part of Italy.

Cinque Terre is actually only a few hours away so you can even depart and return within the same day. However, we don’t recommend that as we believe both places deserve much more time spent on each to truly appreciate and experience all they offer.

One thing Lucca is well known for is its Renaissance style city walls and buildings, belonging to a different era giving us a glimpse of the culture that prevailed many years ago. They are very impressive and you’ll want to take many photos with them and the many memorable sculptures across the city and squares.

Today Lucca has been modernized quite a lot but the walls that once surrounded it, still remain intact revealing that the natives never gave up on what helped the town become what it is today. Now it’s possible for people to go up on the walls and walk on them as a pedestrian promenade offering a marvelous view of the city and its surrounding landscape.
