What to see in Belgium: Royal Greenhouses of Laeken

Designed by the architect Balat, the greenhouses are a magical place that captivates lovers of architecture of the nineteenth century and plant enthusiasts, with its huge windows with metal structure that host flowers, plants and many rare species.

It was initially designed by William I as a vast orangery which was under Leopold II, who reached the place to its current extension, with the addition of a conservatory, with a large dome, connected to a thirty pavilions. This jewel of Art Nouveau is considered one of the largest greenhouses in the world.

It leads to the Royal Greenhouses of honor from the gate of the castle of Laeken, Avenue du Parc Royal (where you can get the bus no. 53 or the tram n. 4, 19, 23). Visiting hours will be between 9am to 16.30 – except Mondays – but weekends are also possible for visits at night. The entrance ticket costs 2.50 Euros for adults and is free for children under 18 years.
