During the year 1506, the mysterious and beautiful city of Sarajevo came into existence. This is a creation that looks like a pearl with timeless resilience. For centuries the country was awaiting for its discovery. Tourists love to see its opulent beauty, inner calm and its castle fields too. It is believed that the beauty of Sarajevo will continue to flourish as time goes by. If you decided to visit the place, you will be delighted because of the combination of Islamic, Baroque, Renaissance, Gothic and the Serbian-Byzantine styles. It is also depicted most often to be the brilliant snowflake that embraces the sky especially during the wintertime.
Who were the first people of Sarajevo? They were the Illyrians. After them there are four cultures that follow. These people clearly leave a mark on the city. The Illyrian culture is from the east as recorded during the prehistoric period. It was the period of Hellenism which was established as the first one in the land. During the late classical era, there was Mithraism and then next to it was the Byzantine culture. The Turkish Islamic was next during the 15th century. As you have observed, there were different inhabitants in the place. They clearly composed the population of Sarajevo. As the year 1991 entered, Sarajevo became a new developed city. Slavs turn out to be traitors to the homeland and they cleaned the area ethnically.
People of Sarajevo believed at first that unity and peace is in their land however it was foolishly discarded. Logic and fairness were also abolished and it results for suffering and war. A lot of people believed that it took spiritual healing so that their nation will be strengthened again. “Requiem” that was created by Mozart was performed in 1994 to honor the lives that were lost during the bloody crush in the area. There are still towers and buildings that are torn after such civil war. These were remembrance for grieves and tragedies of people. When you visit Sarajevo, you will see the historic past and the traces of what happened over the past century.
That is the reason why the place of Sarajevo is more than a place of bullets and bombs. As situated in the River Miljacka valley, there are wonderful views to see for tourists who want to experience more. The city remains an ethnic, political and geographic focal point in the country. Its location is also ideal for the cultural intersection in Western and Eastern Europe. Their history became the reality for those living in Yugoslavia. The place even hosted Ethnic Cleansing as it was the center of Winter Olympic Games.
