5Athens with its stunning Acropolis

Acropolis, Athens

After the 2004 Olympics, Athens has undergone many changes and has been enriched by many museums and tourist attractions. The Acropolis in Athens has managed to endure through the centuries. From the top of a rock, it dominates a surrounding valley and is a universal symbol of classical civilization. The Agora was once the heart of the commercial, political and administrative center of the city-state. Agora was also the scene of the sentence of death of Socrates. To go shopping after a full cultural immersion, I recommend Plaka, one of the most tourist filled areas of the city, where you can see typical craft shops and then stop off at Monastiraki, where throughout the week you can find several places to have a drink and admire the spectacle of the street performers.
