Things to Do When the Usual Plans Get Boring

If you’re an avid traveler, you’ve probably already done all the usual things that tourists do – visiting the local museums, going jet skiing, waking up for an early hike, and seeing the area’s historical landmarks.

But let’s face it: routine can get dull. If your usual plans are starting to feel predictable, it’s time to mix things up. From testing your aim with an axe to exploring eerie pubs with a haunted past, there are countless ways to make your next outing unforgettable.

1. Join a Haunted Pub Crawl

If you’re tired of the usual bar-hopping tours, why not go on a haunted pub crawl? It’s a pub crawl with a twist – you’ll get to see the best hangout spots in town, meet new friends, and learn about the haunted history of those bars and the entire city!

It’s a great way to mix things up and enjoy a night out on the town. Perhaps you’ll even see a ghost sighting or two! A night of booze and boos is the perfect way to try something new, whether you’re a solo traveler or traveling with a partner or friend.

New Orleans is one of the best places to go on a haunted pub crawl. A New Orleans haunted pub crawl will take you to places such as the Vampire Café and the haunted LaLaurie Mansion. Other cities that are great for haunted pub crawls include New York, San Francisco, Williamsburg, and Baltimore.

2. Go on a Ghost Tour

If you don’t drink, or if you’re traveling with kids, you can still taste the spooky hauntedness of a city by joining a local ghost tour.

A ghost tour such as the Annapolis ghost tour run by US Ghost Adventures will take you to hidden local gems such as the Middleton Tavern and the Maryland Inn. You’ll get to explore the darker, untold history of the city you’re visiting – a side that most tourists just won’t get to see.

Ghost tours are perfect for singles, couples, and friend groups. Although you might not be sipping on liquid courage, don’t worry – there’s no need to be afraid when going on a ghost tour. You’ll be led by experienced local guides. The tour will largely consist of learning about haunted stories and folklore. No jump scares are to be found here!

If you’re lucky, you may experience an apparition or ghost sighting, but this is not always the case. However, you often will be able to detect the presence of ghosts through the use of an EMF detector.

Going on a ghost tour is also a great way to meet new people and a great alternative to a traditional walking tour.

3. Try an Escape Room Adventure

An escape room is a great way to take a break from the mundanities of everyday life. It’s a great activity to try with a friend or romantic partner. It strengthens your relationship by forcing you to work together to crack puzzles creatively and find clues.

There are all types of escape rooms, from scavenger hunt escape rooms to haunted houses. Most escape rooms fall into either a linear or non-linear category. In other words, the puzzles must either be completed in order or can be completed in a random order. Because there are so many types of escape rooms, it’s possible to keep visiting new ones without getting bored.

4. Dance the Night Away in a Silent Disco

Silent Disco

Have you ever walked into a club only to find people dancing wildly in dead silence? You probably walked into a silent disco. A silent disco is a type of club where people listen to music on headphones with no ambient music playing.

It’s pretty cool and definitely something to experience at least once in your lifetime. There are several benefits of trying out a silent disco.

For one, you will be able to converse with other people when you want, without needing to shout over the music. That makes it a lot easier to meet other people.

In addition, most silent discos nowadays offer 2-3 (or more) DJs, so you can choose which one you want to listen to. Having everyone dance to different music might seem chaotic at first, but it just adds to all the fun.

5. Go Axe Throwing

Have you ever wanted to throw an axe? When you think of axe throwing, think of darts – but with an axe. Each participant gets a small axe that they need to throw at a board and hit a target. It’s a lot of fun and probably not anything you’ve done before!

6. Take a Nighttime Kayak Tour

Last on our list is a nighttime kayak tour. This is a memorable way to treat your boyfriend or girlfriend to a romantic night out.

There’s nothing like kayaking under the moon. Depending on your location, you may even be able to find bioluminescent kayak tours, which is an almost magical experience.
