The needle of Dublin (the Spire), officially called the “monument of light” as it changes color depending on how the sun shines, rises imposingly on O’Connell Street in Dublin. With 120 meters, stainless steel base, it starts with 3 meters in diameter and the tip ends in 15 cm, forming a figure resembling that of a needle. It is a colored metal that tends to change color by its bright metal. Designed by the Ian Ritchie Architects Ltd, the construction began on the 18th of December, 2002, placing 100 meters from the monument which was divided in 5 sections. The following year they placed the remaining 20 and the study was totally completed on the 21st of January, 2003. The monument of light replaces the column in honor of Admiral Nelson and is the world’s largest sculpture.
