Estaing is located north of Millau, famous for the large suspension bridge, perhaps one of the most beautiful in the world. Estaing is a town with houses, buildings and facades that depart from the fifteenth century: another point is the church of S. Fleuret, a transit point for pilgrims on their way to Saint James of Compostela, the Hotel Cayron (now the town hall), the collegiate church, the castle, the great stone bridge ..
The town was built along the banks of the Lot River at the point where its waters join those of the small tributary Coussane. Over the centuries, the place has managed to retain its medieval character, with houses surrounded by woods and perched around the church and the castle.
If you’re ever in the area in early September you can enjoy the feast called les médiévales d’Estaing: two days of historical re-enactments of medieval themed markets, festivals, taverns, period music and food of traditional flavors.
