Besides the Grand Canyon National Park, there are some others totally inconceivable to the human mind but not so famous or popular. That’s why today we bring you the next most impressive natural canyons in the world:
– Blyde Canyon (Mpumalanga, South Africa): it’s considered as one of the greatest natural wonders of Africa. The main peculiarity of this great canyon over others is its abundant subtropical vegetation. Currently, there are many safaris organized to tour the Blyde River Canyon.
– Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon (Sudurland, Iceland):Don’t you think this magical landscape just needs a Gollum frolicking and catching some fish? Well this place exists. It’s an impressive gorge about two kilometers long and 100 meters deep located between the green pastures of southern Iceland. It’s a true wonder of this mysterious island and highly recommended if you travel to here!
– Colca Canyon (Arequipa, Peru): Hold on if you lean out the Colca Canyon and be careful if you suffer from vertigo! This is the second deepest canyon in the world, only behind Yarlung Tsangpo Gorges (China). According to recent studies, Colca Canyon, which precedes the famous homonymous valley – of about 3,600 feet deep. Awesome wherever you look, right? Well worth a trip to Peru!
– Canyon de Chelly (Arizona, USA): USA’s Navajo reservation encompasses this spectacular landscape of Arizona. The monolith in the picture is called Spider Rock and is one of the most visited spots in this natural area with name of the National Monument. As a curiosity, note that the movie Poltergeist II: the other side begins with images of this place… Do you remember?
– Tiger Leaping Gorge (Yunnan, China): The profound China unfolds at your eyes when you decide to visit one of the most charming landscapes of the Asian giant: the Tiger Leaping. This impressive gorge carved by the action of Yangtze River is named after an exciting traditional Chinese legend: according to the elders of the region, the canyon adopted this name when, in very ancient times, a tiger jumped over the canyon at its most narrow escape from a hunter who pursued it. As you can see, the legend of the name lives up to the beautiful surroundings.
– Sil Canyon (Galicia, Spain): it’s located in the heart of Ribeira Sacra, in Galicia, near the confluence of Miño and Sil rivers. The landscapes are spectacular and at the same time, perfect for starting a trip around Galicia. You can also tour the canyon by catamaran in what undoubtedly is one of the most beautiful journeys in northern Spain, and similar to the experience of visiting the Norwegian fjords on a cruise.
