Did you know that the Dead Sea is not actually a sea; it is just the shallowest lake in the world. The water comes from the Jordan River and other streams. Therefore, it only loses water by evaporation and when the water evaporates by the action of the sun it leaves behind salt and minerals, resulting in the formation of a lake with a salt content of 28% (eight times saltier than the same water sea). As a result it is impossible to sink in these waters so dense with salt. In fact, one can get to sit easily on the surface. In the Dead Sea you cannot go diving, but you can easily swim. The counter part is that as a result of its high amount of salt is very difficult to find surviving plants and fish. From here is where the name Dead Sea comes from, as it contains no life whatsoever.
