The rice terraces of Longsheng in China

These photographs document the spectacular rice terraces of Longsheng which are around 100 km from Guilin, in the region of Guangxi, China. The terraced fields are built over time along the slope of the mountain, from the summit, which reaches 880 meters in height, to the banks of the river, five hundred feet below.

The most popular are the terraces of Ping An and those of Jinkeng. They are spectacular by the change of the landscape through the seasons, with the colors changing from blue to green, gold and white. It goes from ribbons of sparkling water in the sun in spring and ribbons of green rice shoots in summer, the ribbons of golden rice can be seen in fall and then you can get to the silver ribbons of ice in winter.

The name comes from the word longji, which indicates the backbone of the dragon, which recalls the rice terraces, terraces whose construction dates back to more than 500 years ago during the Ming Dynasty. If the weather conditions permit it, the tourists can climb to the top of the mountains in order to to admire the beautiful view of these tapes of rice, which have their turns on the slopes of the mountain. Just like a dragon.
