In the region of Alcarria, near the Sierra de Altamira, is located the reservoir named after the town of Cuenca Buendia, which has many attractions for lovers of gastronomy, culture and nature.
However, in recent times it has become especially popular with travelers thanks to the path of faces, a place made up of pine forests and sandstone rocks on which are carved 18 sculptures from one to eight meters high.
The sculptures on the path of faces break the line marked by museums to extol the relationship between art and nature from the spiritual reflection, as they have a mystical character.
The route sculptures have been inspired by pre-Columbian and Asian cultures. However they have been given a personal touch distinctive from other sculptures reflecting deep and archaic humans.
This is particularly visible in the faces of these sculptures, which have the “archaic smile”.
“The path of Faces” is located on the banks of Pantano de Buendía, in a place known as La Peninsula. Some of the most striking sculptures that can be seen along the route are ‘The Nun’, ‘The Buendia Beethoven’, ‘The Shaman’, ‘The Lady of Pantano’ and ‘The Skull’. However there are many more to see. The sculptures are spread among the whole area.
