When a trip to Japan is planned, it is best to know more about all the tourist potential of the Japanese destination, understanding how the territory is made.
It is in fact distributed in four major areas which are easily accessible by train and by highway.
Honshu is the largest area of the country and also houses the most important city of Tokyo, the capital and one of the largest cities in the world.
On the north end of the Japanese archipelago lies the area of Hokkaido, a popular winter destination known for its ski resorts and its wonderful natural landscapes that offer interesting attractions in any season. The area of Shikoku is the smallest of the ‘Big Four’, located south of the area of Honshu and known as a rural backwater, with a mountainous interior offering excellent options for lovers of nature, spas and hiking.
Shikoku is also the area where the pilgrimage of the 88 temples, one of the most famous in Japan, which runs more than 1,200 kilometers around the island is held. Kyushu is the southernmost area of the archipelago, a territory with subtropical climate that contrasts with the rest of Japan. It boasts its fertile valleys. Kyushu invites visitors to visit its ancient temples, its magnificent beaches and even ski in the mountains in winter.
