What to see in Valletta, Malta

Valletta is Malta’s capital city and it is considered to be a world heritage site. The city cannot be considered as a place that is short of museums and architecture; since it has since the Baroque era. For centuries, it was the center of the Maltese government. For this reason, Valletta has the welcome heads of the state and other famous people with open arms as first image. It is dotted with small cafes and bars. Visiting Malta will not be complete without heading in the city.  Among the top attractions in the city is the St John’s Co cathedral which is the home of several treasures and paintings. You would also want to visit the Grand Harbor which is said to be the most beautiful place in the region. The unique setting of city makes it a perfect place for various cultural events like theater and opera.

During the day, it is also a center of business activities and at night it slows down. Take this as an advantage to have a quiet stroll and admire the magic points of the capital. You can admire several clusters of buildings, churches, balconies and a lot more. There also a lot of notable attractions in Valletta. Here are some of them:

  • Triiton fountain is found in the center close to the bus station. This is a common meeting place for tourists and local residents alike. The fountain is situated in Floriana just outside the city wall and in front of the city gate. There are bus stations and hotels surrounding the edifice.
  • For those who love bargain, the Sunday morning flea market is the best place to go. This is held outside the city walls and it is considered the largest market in Malta. Even if you are not planning to buy anything, you might want to look around. The outdoor market is filled with various produces even fake designer items.
  • Republic Street is another main shopping center for the city. It starts at the city gate to the tip of peninsula. There are sections of the area where it is close for transportation to accommodate a lot of tourist going to the place. This is a very popular place for eating and hanging out.
  • The National museum of Archaeology is found on the left side of the famous Republic Street. It is located in the Auberge de Provence. The museum is filled with collection from various eras from the Bronze to the Roman period. Artifacts from various digs from different parts of the country are found there as well.
