Surfers can be found in different parts of the world, challenging the waves. A perfect place to grab your board and hit the water is Bali in Indonesia. Apart from admiring its marvelous natural beauty, surfers have the chance to practise their favorite sport in a lot of places. A good starting point can be Batu Mejan and Canggu, two sections of consecutive beach which are really good choices to practice.
In the south, you can find a place called Dreamland Beach. This bay, surrounded by hills, is known as land of dreams and it is very popular with surfers. It is a very trendy area which is accessed after passing Pecatu Indah. Besides surfers, is common to see a crowd of people on the beach, admiring the tricks surfers perform on the water.
The beach between Kuta and Legian is the one most visited and crowded by tourists, has constant waves but without them being huge or dangerous. Thanks to its long continuous breakers, it is a good place for beginners. From here you can easily go surfing, sailing, diving, fishing or rafting anywhere in the south of the island.
East of Negara and the southwest coast of Bali lies the small town of Medewi, which offers good waves for surfers at its Pantai Medewi beach. The beach is a large swath of huge gray rocks, with smooth and round black pebbles.
Nusa Lembongan is one of the three islands of the southern east coast of Bali. Its idyllic beaches and areas of surfing, snorkeling and diving make it the most popular island for tourists. Its three main breakers on the reef are suitable only for expert surfers. For scuba divers, the best dive sites are in the Blue Corner and Jackfish Point. There are also good places to snorkel near the pontoon cruises and in the areas of the north coast of the island.
On the coast around Ulu Watu, a reef located in the southwestern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, there are legendary breakers. It’s a place with a high tide and great waves. They are the largest and most dangerous of Bali and only suitable for very experienced surfers. The only point of the area in which visitors can swim and surf in normal surfing conditions is Padang Padang, with establishments that sell and rent surfing equipment.
