Surely many of you have seen the silhouette of an animal in the clouds. However, this is not possible exclusively for the skies! It is possible to find cases like this on earth too.
More specifically in Heimaey Island, off the coast of Iceland where there is a cliff that has become famous for having the form of a giant elephant.
Heimaey is one of the largest inhabited islands of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago country.
Its origin is volcanic and the landscape is formed by basaltic rocks. Basalt is the result of rapid cooling of lava upon contact with cold seawater.
In 1973, there was a volcanic eruption on the mountain Eldfell of this island and lava began to emerge headed toward the bay. During the eruption, half the city was crushed, but the lava came in contact with sea water and solidified as the island grew.
What makes these rock formations special is that they recall the figure of an elephant. The wrinkles that appear on the cliff closely resemble the texture and color of the skin of an elephant. The funny thing is that over time and erosion have created small cavities that have come to draw what appears like the eye and ear of an elephant.
