The tiny Uruguay with so much to offer

Anyone that has not yet identified this tiny country on the eastern shores of Latin America, is simply not aware that this is one of the upcoming travel destinations. Wonderful beaches with the breeze of the Atlantic. Uruguay may look alot like Argentina since there both eventually submitted a joint request to UNESCO for recognition of the tango as an intangible cultural asset, but it is sure that this small country has its own charm.

Peaceful and safe, with educated residents and few cases of corruption, often referred to as the Switzerland of South America. Here is also a favorite retreat of the international jet set, the city of Punta del Este. A peninsula with sand, rocks and forests located 130 km from the capital Montevideo.

The main street of La Gorlero, is where beautiful women and tanned guys with floral shirts exchange glances. Modern buildings, shops, hotels and restaurants surround the two beaches. The La Playa Mansa is famous for its calm waters, unlike the Playa Brava. The more bohemian types would prefer beaches like Cabo Polonio and Punta del Diablo. Nature lovers will again book islands like Isla Gorriti and Isla de Lobos, shelters walrus. Water is starring in the capital.

The namesake river, which crosses it, gives another picture every day, depending on the moods of the wind. In the Old Town stands the Citadel, the gate that protects early as 1829 by the invaders. A stroll to admire magnificent buildings, such as the Metropolitan Cathedral of the city, the Teatro Solis and the Museo Torres Garcia. If you want a green respite, the Parque Rodo offered to walk or rest, while the suburbs Carrasco and Pocitos will see how the rich live Uruguayans.

Since the main attraction of the country are the beaches, it is best to choose to go in the summer between December and March. From April to November there can be strong winds, rain and low temperatures. Ideal is between January and February to enjoy the carnival and Montevideo.
