During the Second World War, the island was used by the British government for biological warfare tests. Experiments with anthrax were carried out here and it caused sheep to die and as such, the island had to be quarantined. Although no case of anthrax has been found since 2007, many are still wary of the island’s safety. Click the next ARROW to see the next image!
