The Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the top attractions in Germany. It is described as a structure of paradox and one of the most controversial structures during its time. Found in the town of Bavaria, it was constructed by King Ludwig II or also known as the Fairytale King. This notable king is a known devotee of Richard Wagner who is a world renowned composer. For this reason most of the rooms in the castle are built in the honor of the said composer. The third floor of the castle pretty much showcases the operas of Wagner’s. The fourth floor is called the Singers hall which where you can find different characters from the composition of Wagner. Even the name Neuschwanstein is a reference from of the characters of Wagner which literally means New Swan Castle. During the 19th century when it was built, castles were no longer meant for defense and strategy. Literally there is no protection and security for the said castle.
Overall, the look of Neuschwanstein Castle is purely medieval however it is equipped with the latest technology like an automatic flush on toilets and a heating system that covers that whole castle. The water used in the castle is supplied by a spring which is found 200 meters from the structure. The location of the castle is a fairy tale one as it is found in the Alps of Bavaria. It is found on top of the hill accompanied by a magnificent landscape. Everything that surrounds the castle is so amazing and beautiful that it takes your breath away. The castle is also near the town of Fussen which is also considered a popular tourist spot in the country. If you want to visit the place and you are worried about the the accommodation options have a look at Bavari Vacation Rentals because they have quite a lot of offers.
The construction of the Neuschwanstein Castle lasted for almost two decades. This is due to the fact that the king wanted it to be perfect. The construction was not completed yet till the king’s death. He only spent 11 days on the castle. There is an inner garden surrounding the castle and it even has an artificial cave. There are over 14 rooms in the castle and each of them is decorated intensively. There are two rooms that are inspired by Byzantine Empire. The paintings are all depicting angels.
Every year there are millions of people who enter the gates of the castle. It is considered as one of the most photographed structures in the world although taking photos are not allowed inside. Disney World was inspired by the castle so much that they reciprocated it on Sleeping Beauty. The original name of the structure is New Hohenschwangau Castle but it was changed after the king’s death. The original designer of the castle is Christian Jank however he is not really an architect but a theater designer. Recently the castle has been featured in the commemorative coin of Germany.
