In the autonomous community of Castile and Leon, near the city of Valladolid, rises from a rocky hill a manor fertile tower dominated by a tall central tower and square. Here we are in front of the Castillo de Penafiel, a fortification constructed in stone Campaspero that represents an example of the Iberian German Gothic style. It is 210 longmeters and 33 wide, towering 30 feet tall male (Torre del Homenaje) that oversees the two inner courtyards.
The original building was built there in the ninth century, but the majestic present appearance dates back to Don Pedro Téllez Girónsu – we had a hand in the fifteenth century by enhancing a vital defensive point overlooking the rivers Duero and Duratón and the valley of the Botijas. It is a national Monument since 1917, the castle is now the seat of the Provincial Wine Museum of Valladolid in 1999 the Diputación of Valladolid has decided to create an exhibition space that, through this fruit of the earth and work of human hands, promoted the territory attracting even the most sensitive to the streets and to the territories of the wine.
For those who prefer a little less to the wine great religious architecture, it is a recommended stop at the Convent of S.Pablo, which was built in 1324 on the ruins of a fortress built by Alfonso X: here there are gothic references mixed with other styles and inside there is the mausoleum of Don Juan Manuel de Villena.
