Getting Around
The best way to experience a good portion of this lively metropolis is by using public transportation. MARTA is Atlanta’s bus and rail system and it costs only $2 per person. Downtown, Midtown, Buckhead, and Peachtree District are just a few sections that encompass this vast city. You could begin a day trip through Atlanta’s east side and view historic houses and quaint bungalows in Inman Park. Or look up at eye-catching skyscrapers in Midtown like One Symphony Tower or the notable Candler Building built in 1906.

There are discount tickets to be found for a baseball game with the Atlanta Braves or a visit to the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, and even Zoo Atlanta. Atlanta History Center has an array of places to see and experience at a bundle price that will make you smile.
Looking for fun in the sun with the kids? Centennial Olympic Park is the place to be the fourth Saturday of each month, April-September. Free family fun days feature contests and prizes, educational workshops and more. Also in the summer months the park showcases live music performances. It’s Music at Noon, and it’s free.

A day trip to Grant Park offers free swimming at the pool, or picnics on the green. You can also get a lesson in civil rights with a free tour of the Martin Luther King Jr. Historical Site. Every Thursday from 1-3 p.m.at the Center for Puppetry Arts your kids can enjoy a permanent exhibit highlighting the puppet mastery created by Jim Henson.
The art lover can see great works up close by visiting the Woodruff Art Center, or the Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech. These art centers will give you a glimpse of contemporary and diverse cultural art exhibits.
Interested in shopping, or a eating out? Visit Atlantic Station, a shopping experience like no other. It has numerous dining options and offers free open-air movie nights.
