It was an exceptional rescue operation, thanks to which even today we can admire the archaeological site of Abu Simbel. Egypt decided to thank the 4 countries that most were engaged in this rescue (USA, Germany, Italy and Spain), giving help to each one of the temples saved from the waters. The Egyptian Temple of Debod was the “gift basket” for Spain.
Having maintained more or less the same orientation as it was originally, from east to west to follow the course of the sun, “obscured” by the buildings to the east of Madrid, the temple is popular especially at sunset, when the sun goes down towards the Guadarama chain, visible on a clear day.
It is a very romantic place which, combined with the ease of the Spaniards, makes this site very popular among couples in the mood for effusions. On the nearby terrace there is a bar, where you can have a drink or an ice cream on a hot day in Madrid
.
It is very close to Plaza de España, next to the Parque del Oeste and it has afree entry, but for a quota of 60 persons at a time. In summer it is open every day except Mondays and holidays, from 9:45 to 13:45 and from 16:15 to 18:15 on weekdays, from 9:30 to 20 on Saturdays and Sundays.
