If you want to get away for a holiday, which are the best value places on earth to go to? There’s just so much economic doom and gloom in the media at the moment that at times it seems simpler to take your holiday under a rock. Not to mention cheaper. So how do you get more bang for your buck and stay quids in when venturing overseas?
Well, don’t despair, as it turns out there are plenty of places abroad that help you do just that. A change is as good as a rest, as the saying goes, and according to a recent survey by The Post Office, which looked at how much things like a glass of wine and a packet of fags cost travellers in different destinations, the following are the absolute best places to go.
Spain and Sri Lanka both share the top spot for best value out of 42 holiday resort destinations surveyed, so decide whether you’re looking for short or long haul. Both places offered the traveller the cheapest prices for dinner for two, cigarettes, drinks and sun cream, compared to the other countries surveyed. As an example, a three-course meal with wine in Spain’s Costa del Sol will set you back £22.32, while the same will cost you £122.45 in South Korea’s Seoul – the list’s most expensive performer. Even in Italy’s Sorrento that same meal will cost you a whopping £62.50 helping make that country the only European one on the worst-performing list! There go your romantic Italian holiday ideas…
If you do fancy staying in Europe, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Hungary and Portugal are also in the top 10 list of cheapest destinations, so it might be worth exploring one of those places you’ve never been to before. Meanwhile, Turkey, Mexico, Vietnam and Bali are the other contenders in the top 10 a little further afield.
