Who knows, maybe they have been invented by them. However, the Christmas markets in South Tyrol are the most characteristic that you can visit in Italy, certainly they are made easier by the beautiful natural scenery where they are hosted, including Merano (the second city of South Tyrol).
And this year, from the 24th of November till the  6th of January, you can visit Merano during the Christmas season, to see the city and do some Christmas shopping at the market. In conjunction with this event, I like the initiative of the Historic Train Veneta, which organizes a nice train ride from Verona to Merano, so you can fully enjoy the event without having to stress the drive. It ‘also a great way to socialize!
Everything is organized for Sunday the 16th of December. It starts from Verona Porta Nuova at 7:50, you get to Merano at 11, and with a 15-minute walk you can be in the middle between the market stalls. You can come back at home, starting at 15:50 and arrive in Verona at 19:00. All aboard in the historian train, Camilla! The prices for adults is 25 € and 10 for children.
