Castles of Spain: the tower of Vallferosa

Vallferosa , Lleida in Catalonia is one of the best destination for Spain holiday tours. These are the coordinates that lead us to admire a cylindrical tower surrounded by rocky hills adorned with Mediterranean vegetation that seem not want to grow too much not to overshadow a masterpiece of military architecture dating from the tenth century.

The Tower of Vallferosa is an ancient outpost that is depended on a castle of which it has remained no trace, probably, as they used to do, was to cannibalise to build the church and the houses of the village below. The cylindrical tower is 11 meters high , decorated with battlements that can be observed up close using only a precarious wooden staircase on the inside of the structure (hence you can also limit to look at them from below) .

And by sitting with your feet firmly on the ground you can also visit the remains of the nearby esglèsia (church), of which only the façade, the walls and the aisles without ceiling remain: this allows you to take outstanding photos from the inside of the tower of the old church. Also nearby are the remains of the land abandoned during the civil war of 1936 /39, medieval tombs carved into the rock and much more. If you choose the autumn as a time for your tour of the surroundings of Lleida , you can take a look at the wine roads of that territory : a bit of wine never hurts!
