Here we bring you the reasons that will make you live in Great Britain until next year:

Literary Anniversaries

This year there are two important anniversaries for classic books lovers:

Alice in Wonderland will be 150 years old in November, so it is a good time to head to Oxford, where Lewis Carroll lived. Guided tours are conducted following in his footsteps and a tea room that reproduces details of Wonderland.

Emma, by Jane Austen, will be 200 years old in December and admirers of the author have a good number of places to follow in the stubborn heroine and her beloved creator’s footsteps. To know the writer and her work, you can visit the House-Museum of Jane Austen in Chawton close to Portsmouth and Southampton. And in Bath, we can take guided visits to the locations where the movie was filmed.

– Also this year is the 125th anniversary of Agatha Christie. The master of mystery stories was born on September 15, 1890 in Torquay, the so-called English Riviera, located in Devon; the place has become synonymous with the writer and is a must visit for her followers. Greenway, her holiday house, is a national heritage site that you can visit and even stay in it.

Historical dates

– This last January reached the 50th anniversary of the death of Sir Winston Churchill. The figure of the Prime Minister calls thousands of visitors that every year come to Chartwell, his home, and the Cabinet War Rooms, the bunker that sheltered Churchill and his government during the Blitz in World War II. It is also recommended to visit the Palace of Blenheim, his birthplace.

– 800 years ago King John and the knights of his kingdom signed the Magna Carta. This was one of the bases upon which modern government was built to divide the functions and create the Parliament. History lovers can relive and learn its intricacies, following the thematic itineraries prepared for the occasion.

Places to discover

The interior of Great Britain offers many landscapes, tours and activities that are not fully known for the ordinary tourist, who visits the most known ones. For example, in Wales we find the region of Snowdonia, where it is the National Park of the same name. Ideal area for the adventurous traveler and for those tourists looking to practice active tourism. Among the many alternatives: a huge repertoire of water becomes a surf park to practice this sport with artificial waves up to 2 meters; or an underground park for the whole family; or the longest zip wire in the northern hemisphere.
