In both Europe and the states there are opportunities for a summer skiing holiday, which means that even if you missed out during the winter, you can still head to the slopes with your family in the coming months. Buying skiing wardrobe essentials for your kids once at your resort can be pricey, so make sure you stock up before you leave the UK. Use the following as a check-list of items to take for you and your children.
Warm footwear
When you are on the slopes you will probably be wearing thick skiing socks and footwear, though it’s important you keep your feet warm après-ski too. Go for cosy boots made from natural fibres: Uggs are perfect as they are crafted from sheep’s wool and feature a robust rubber sole. Kid’s Ugg boots are also available , so the whole family can look on-trend and stay warm. Make sure you treat your boots with a leather spray before heading out, which will help protect them from water and snow damage.
Thermal underlayers
Thermal layers help regulate body temperature, keeping you and your children warm, yet preventing you from overheating. Long sleeved tops and thermal leggings are great for wearing underneath skiing clobber, though make sure you choose sweat-wicking items, as you will be wearing them all day long.
Neck warmer
As well as keeping you and your children snug, a neck warmer will cover the exposed skin at the back of the neck, and help protect from the dangers of sunburn. Choose a tube neck warmer for yourself and your children, as a scarf can easily come unravelled when you’re on the slopes, and could be dangerous.
Waterproof outerlayers
These should be bought from a specialist wintersports or outdoors shop before you leave the UK. Hiring them once you are at your summer ski resort is a possibility, but to find the best fit and style, it’s recommended you buy in advance. Salopettes and ski jackets come in all shapes and sizes, so you should find pieces to fit all members of the family. Make sure both items allow full unrestricted movement, which is important when you are on the slopes all day.
Swimwear
Many will neglect to pack this ski holiday essential, yet swimwear will come in useful at your destination. Many ski resorts have saunas and Jacuzzis which are great for relaxing in after skiing all day. Little ones may get tired of skiing every day over the course of your holiday, so a day at the pool could be an ideal chance for them to recharge their batteries.
Sunglasses
If you’re heading off on a summer ski holiday, expect lots of sun! The dazzling white sand will reflect the sun’s rays, meaning that sunburn and eye damage are real concerns. Choose wrap-around sunglasses with large frames for you and your kids, to ensure the maximum level of protection.
