Reasons to visit Tuscany in Autumn

A lot of people think that summer is the best time to travel. But seasoned tourists know that, by travelling in Autumn, you not only can enjoy milder but still agreeable temperatures in Tuscany, but you also have a better chance of grabbing a good deal! We recommend staying in self-catering accommodation for the best prices. Queues for the main monuments will be shorter, restaurants will have available tables and you won’t have to wait an hour for your favourite gelato.

But if you need even more reasons to decide to take that flight and stay in one of the many villas in Italy this autumn, here are a few interesting places to visit that we bet you hadn’t heard of:

  • San Miniato’s truffle fair

Autumn is the best season for truffle harvesters! Cooks and chefs in Tuscany have used these luxurious ingredients for many years and going to a truffle fair really is an experience that you won’t be able to find anywhere else! You can talk to the experts and find out more reasons why this ingredient is so valued worldwide.

  • Village festivals in autumn

In October, many villages celebrate their “sagre” of festivals of the village. These festivals are traditionally dedicated to seasonal products and could be compared to the traditional Harvest festival celebrated all across Britain. There are festivals dedicated to all sorts of local autumnal products, such as mushrooms, game meat, grapes, chestnuts, olive oil and mushrooms. Don’t forget to bring your photo camera!

  • Visit Florence’s most famous mime!

If you go past Loggia dei Lanzi, close to Palazzi Vecchio and Uffizi, you will be able to have a good laugh thanks to Grey, a loved mime who imitates anybody who walks past him! He is locally very famous and everybody in the city loves him. So join in!

Autumn is also a great season to stay in your own private corner of Italy. Choose one of the lodges or luxury Tuscan villas available and enjoy the freedom and tranquility of the region.
