Although there are still three weeks to the fateful day in some parts of the world Santa Claus has already dropped the sled for the ride ritual, giving the reindeer a little well-deserved rest before the final sprint. We are in the alpine village of Saint Niklaus (in fact, the most suitable place to meet Santa Claus), the mountains of western Switzerland, not far from Zermatt.
Here, in honor of the patron saint of the town, is the home of the largest Santa Claus that ever lived in the world: the bell tower of the church is 350 years old and more than 36 meters high, was also dressed this year and transformed into a gigantic Santa (which entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 1998).
Grächen – St. Niklaus is situated on a large sunny terrace overlooking the Matterhorn valley at an altitude of 1620 m. It is a popular holiday destination for families, who can enjoy games and entertainment in the largest and best equipped playground of Switzerland, SiSU Kinderpark, which is spread over three floors in an area of 40,000 square meters.
38 km of winter hiking trails, a toboggan run and 23 miles of trails for snowshoeing attract people who are not fond of skiing in the magnificent snowy winter landscape.
