CANARY ISLANDS
It is an autonomous region of Spain divided into two provinces: Las Palmas, which includes the islands of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote. Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which includes the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.
The island is located in the Atlantic Ocean, off the African coast making them one of the great seaside destinations of international tourism. Their territory is very mountainous, except from Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. The climate is pleasant all year round, with long sunny days and the trade winds that blow regularly during the autumn and winter.
July and August are hot, however, it does not reach the extreme temperatures – it hardly exceed 30 degrees of celcious.
TENERIFE
The largest and most famous island of the archipelago is called the Country of Eternal Spring for its mild and constant climate throughout the year. In the central part, runs a mountain range that culminates with the Volcano of Pico del Teide, the highest mountain of Spain (3,718 m asl) which divides the northern area (green and full of crops) from the southernmost sandy arid.
The capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife is located in the North of the island, as well as Puerto de la Cruz which is an important tourist center of the island where the famous Canarian architect César Manrique designed seven beautiful irregular and rounded pools in the center of the city life. In the southwest, there are lovely beaches, including Playa de las Americas, which has become a mecca for international tourists.
The green abounds in the gardens of the capital where the Garcia Sanabria Park coexists with canary palm trees, ficus and all kinds of tropical plants. Among the monuments, the Palace of the Charter and the Church of the Immaculate Conception are of great importance.
Even the winter lends itself to a pleasant holiday, with mild temperatures, the water of the winter is between 21 and 22 degrees, while in the summer reaches 25-26, to keep in mind the almost total absence of marine and air pollution. This temperature range has changed the mind of millions of visitors that will be flying to Tenerife this winter as they did in the summer. On the islands there are no industries contaminants of any kind, there are no nuclear power plants and even they produce fumes for the heating of buildings, given the mildness of the climate.
Candelaria Square is the city center and the meeting point of the inhabitants. Among the most beautiful beaches of Santa Cruz, Las Gaviotas and Las Teresitas need to be mentioned. In Puerto de la Cruz instead the most beautiful beach is to Martianez , with natural pools and architectural works of Cesar Manrique. There are also numerous city parks with variety of amazing plants and animals, including Loro Parque where they have the most important collection of parrots in the world and the most comprehensive penguinarium that has ever been built.
The most famous beaches of the island are those of Playa de las Americas, in the south east of the island, with golden sand and tourist infrastructure of a good standard. In order to get to Tenerife there are half-priced flights from Monarch from the majority of UK airports throughout the year – Give it a go!!!
