Do you want to be the first to see the dawn of the 1st of January? Then the next year you should organize to go to the island of Caroline, in the Pacific Ocean, where the new day arrives before the rest of the world. The island is part of Kiribati, in French Polineasia, and since 1995 (the year of the realignment of the international line) is the first terrestrial area to have the new day, almost a day earlier than other parts of the world.
The island has also been called “Millennium Island” and is as you can see from the picture, in the middle of the ocean, 1530 miles east of the 180th meridian. The island, however, has another name by which it is identified, and it is “Christmas Island”, or Island of Christmas, because it was discovered in 1777 by Captains James Cook just December 25.
In short, it is a very special island and although it is difficult to get there (you can only try to contact the airline Air Marshall or arrange weeks by sea) it is definitely a place to put one of the most dreamed destinations.
