I do not know if there are tour operators and shipping companies that fit into the excursions offered to its customers. Probably not. In any case, the Island of Migingo in Kenya, offers one of the most special detailed tour of Lake Victoria.
Slightly larger than a rock, it is located two hours by boat from the nearest shore. Migingo has an area completely bare, enlivened by five shabby trees. The lack of space is fully occupied by huts made of wood and metal, between which runs a sort of a wide main street of the village.
This strange example of urban lake is inhabited by about 1000 people, mostly fishermen who catch and sell the precious Nile perch, a great resource and damnation of the Lake Victoria. Residing on the island – whose territory is also contested by Uganda and Kenya – the thousand lucky residents of Migingo save on fuel and live mainly in the workplace. All the pictures that are shown in the article are taken from Denzel and they do shoe the everyday life in the island.
